From one man shows to large scale participatory actions, the vacuum cleaner’s approach is both subtle and extreme, but always candid, provocative and playful. His work has been exhibited throughout the UK, including commissions from Tate Modern, ICA and Wellcome Collection as well as for BBC4, Channel 4 and Arte. He regularly presents work internationally both on the streets and in art spaces. He cofounded the Laboratory of Insurrectionary Imagination (2004 – 2009) and is an Artsadmin Associate Artist.

Recovering From The Radical

Semi-notorious art and activist collective of one ‘the vacuum cleaner’ present some successes and some failures from somewhere on the border of art and activism.

Success looks like: Brandalising a coffee shop chain into changing it’s own logo, building an ark in a place that they said would never flood, shutting down a coal fired power station with home made rafts, opening your own mental health hospital.

Failure looks like: Not healthily dealing with the stress of being taken to court by a coffee shop chain, making the ark out of cardboard, being spied on for shutting down 25% of a power station, being in the situation of needing to be in a mental health hospital.
