Open Clasp have unparalleled experienced working creatively with women on the margins of society, and successfully work with communities to create risk-taking and exciting theatre providing powerful stimulus for discussion and debate. Their most recent play Key Change devised with women in prison transferred to New York after winning the Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award 2015 where it received the prestigious New York Times Critics Pick.
Changing the World One Play at a Time
The company’s Artistic Director, Catrina McHugh delivered a workshop exploring and demonstrating their unique approach, and Creative Producer Jill Heslop spoke about the work in a wider context challenging the contemporary focus on ‘reintegration’ for marginalised communities and instead argued for theatre which resists and opposes the status quo through its potential as a space to make new space.
