Benedict Power is a producer, director and theatre maker based in Manchester. Recent work includes ACE supported new plays War Stories (24:7 Festival and Re:Play 2015 at HOME, touring summer 2016), Spring Reign (The Lowry and Theatre in the Mill, 2015 – to tour nationally in 2017), and Real Life (The Royal Exchange Studio, 2015). He is currently developing an interactive multi-media performance about psychiatric illness, with performer Garth Williams. The piece is an autobiographical play about the performer’s hospitalisation, treatment and recovery, and his eventual escape from the confines of the psychiatric care system – told in parallel with the life and ideas of controversial and revolutionary psychiatrist R.D. Laing.
Spring Reign is play about the conflict in Syria. Created in response to the Assad Government’s brutality towards peaceful protesters during the Arab Spring, the war that followed, and the consequences of inaction by the International Community. Used as a platform to help spread awareness and engage with the on-going humanitarian crisis.
